Astrology entices people by offering a glimpse into the future for a price. Should Christians accept the offer? At what price? What does the Bible say about astrology?

For centuries people have consulted the stars, seeking their help when making important decisions. They expect the stars to give them guidance. They hope the stars will show them the future. Even some Christians look to their horoscopes for a glimpse at what’s to come; but should they? What does the Bible say about astrology, anyway?

Does Astrology Work?

The book of Genesis says: “God made two great lights: the larger one to govern the day and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the sky to light the earth.” (Genesis 1:16-17 ) Clearly, God created the heavenly bodies to light the earth, but not to function as a therapist, oracle, or god. The idea that the sun moon and stars have a mind of their own has been disproved by modern science, so there is no need to perpetuate it with a belief in astrology.

Is Astrology “Bad”?

Horoscopes, sun signs, and psychics all operate on the premise that heavenly bodies and celestial events determine what will happen in people's lives. However, the Bible says that only God determines our lives: “You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your Book.” (Psalm 139:16)

Therefore, people who consult the stars are relying on the creation instead of the creator who made them. Looking to anything other than God for guidance and assistance is not just an insult to the almighty, but is also idolotry, which is forbidden by God: “Do not worship any god except me. Do not make idols that look like anything in the sky…” (Exodus 20:3-4)

Does God Even Care about Astrology?

Only God has the answers to humanity’s questions. He is the ultimate authority on the future and he wants his children to look to Him for all their needs: “I made you and I will take care of you” (Isaiah 46:3-4) When believers turn away from God’s loving care, like king Manasseh did, God gets mad: “Manasseh… practiced sorcery and divination, and he consulted mediums and psychics. He did much that was evil in the Lord’s sight, arousing His anger.” (2 Kings 21:6)

Why Does God Get Mad about Horoscopes?

Occult practices, including astrology, engage demons who are in opposition to the only real God. The demons’ leader is a liar: “He has always been a murderer and a liar. There is nothing truthful about him… He is the father of all lies.” (John 8:44) and his strategy is to deceive “But now I fear that you will be tricked, just as Eve was tricked by the lying snake” (2 Corinthians 11:3)

When people engage in occult practices to gain wisdom, they are opening the door to allow deceptive and evil spirits into their lives. God doesn’t want his children to be deceived, hurt, and possibly even possessed by demons. The way to access true wisdom is by having a relationship with God, and getting the scoop straight from Him, not by dabbling in the occult.

If Astrology Is Wrong, What Now?

Instead of consulting the heavens, Christians should talk to the One who made them. Click here to find out how to pray prayers that will be answered, then look beyond the heavenly bodies and focus directly on God, their maker. He promises to provide all the answers his people need.

See Daniel 5.11. Daniel was the chief of astrologers, diviners etc.under Nebuchadnezzar. He refused to eat Kingly food in spite of Threat of Death. Why did he accept the post of Chief of Astrologers?
Was he afraid of death later?

Daniel was the chief of all those that claimed to have special knowledge. That does not make him an astrologer, just simply the best of all the "wise men".

God says that he created everything in order...for a purpose. Who are we to claim that he didnt create the stars as a guide. There is a difference between putting your faithin creation as opposed to god and using what god created as tools to help us better understand him. God created the stars as wel as seasons months and people. Who are we to say that the allignment of the stars cant possibly be associated with the type of people born in certain months and seasons therefore creating certain type of people during certain atmospheres. This idea isnt worshiping the stars and depending on them, its thanking the creator for giving us tools to better understand the order he made us in.
